NAVIG8: Faith, Values, Life

Let’s NAVIG8 this together!

At Leeds Jewish Free School, our students are prepared for the wider world through ‘NAVIG8’. Throughout their time at LJFS, students will deepen their understanding of different faiths, develop community relationships and build a deeper understanding and identity within their own faith.
By the end of Key Stage 3, students will have experienced 3 different faiths throughout our Faith Weeks, as well as visiting a non-Jewish place of worship, to celebrate their similarities and differences with other faiths and support our British Values. In addition, students will support their own faith by learning the opening prayers of the Sabbath and attending a synagogue trip or joining us for our annual LJFS Shabbat event.
At LJFS, we also want students to feel connected to and proud to be British. Students will have the chance to visit the Houses of Parliament and understand how democracy functions, as well as experiencing another British cultural event such as a Bonfire Night or Pancake Day!
Our school has always had a wonderful relationship with the community around it and NAVIG8 aims to help our students foster that even more. Students will have the chance to volunteer in the community, support vulnerable people and build an environment that is inclusive and supportive of all people in our wider school community.
We commit to the following things, allowing our students to really get to grips with British Values and navigating themselves through community, faith and life.

1. Learn about 3 faiths

2. Read the opening prayers of the Sabbath

3. Visit a Non-Jewish place of worship

4. Show gratitude and thanks through reflection

8. Take part in a service at a Synagogue or at the LJFS School Friday night Service
